Football coach, teacher found dead in Rosenberg hotel

The head football coach at George Ranch High School and a female educator from the school were found shot to death at a Rosenberg hotel on Friday, along with the educator's estranged husband, police and a school district spokeswoman said.

Rosenberg police are investigating the deaths, Lt. Colin Davidson said. The three were found shortly before 5 p.m. Friday at the Regency Inn, 28382 Southwest Freeway, he said.

Trevor L. White, 39, of Katy, was head football coach and athletic coordinator at the school; Destiny A. Pickett, 39, of Richmond, was instructional coordinator. Her estranged husband Clifford Pickett, 50, also was found at the scene.

Fort Bend County court documents show she filed for divorce Feb. 8 and sought a temporary restraining order. The couple had a daughter, 12, and a son, 9.

One handgun was recovered, Davidson said. The Picketts were found just outside the doorway to the hotel room, he said; White was inside the room. Davidson said police have no reason to suspect anyone else was involved in the incident. He declined to discuss possible motives until autopsies are done.

Christy Willman, spokeswoman for Lamar Consolidated Independent School District, said both employees were well known on campus.

“Our first interest is the psychological and emotional well-being of our staff and our students,” Willman said. “Our grief crisis counseling team will be at the school on Monday to deal with any needs of students and staff.”

George Ranch is the newest of the district’s four high schools, having opened last fall. It currently serves freshmen and sophomores.

White, a 1997 graduate if Stephen F. Austin State University, joined the district in January 2010 from Alief Taylor High School, and Pickett had just returned to the district last fall, having originally been hired at another campus in 1999, Willman said.

Such a sad, sad story for all involved! Please continue to remain in prayer for the children of these individuals, and their extended families. Also take time to pray for the students of these educators.   z^

Yes. Please keep these young children in your prayers. Life has just been turned upside down for them. Sad and tragic.
