Arkansas vs Ole Miss
BIG DON:
Saw a play in last nights game that has me scratching my head
Arkansas on Offense going left to right on TV Screen
Arkansas takes the snap and throws it to their wide out to their right
Wide out catches the ball and is nailed by the Ole Miss defender not a dirty hit and nothing to warrant a foul on the hit.
My question is just as the ball is snapped the defender comes off the sideline and makes the tackle. Now I am assuming he would be the 11 player is this legal? does the defense have to establish its self before the snap? Just looked odd on TV sorry still looking for the video of the play
Kalle:
Actually, the 9-yard rule applies only to team A, which kinda makes sense.

If the ball was snapped before the 11th player made it onto the field, then he has committed an illegal substitution foul, but nothing more.
Not that my opinion makes any difference, but I’ve never liked that rule. For the exact reason described in the given play, I’d prefer to see a rule that makes it a major foul for a substitute to enter the field while the ball is in play, enforceable at the end of the last run, with a first down.

What changes in the enforcement if the "individual" would be the 12 player? :sTiR:
