The Dreaded IW clock status
« on: September 14, 2021, 07:30:17 PM »
2nd and 8 on B's 27

B55 is in neutral zone at the snap.

Team A takes advantage of the free play and throws the ball towards the EZ.

B17 intercepts the ball at B2 and enters the EZ.  Deep wing has a brain freeze and blows the play dead for a touchback.

After the play B17 taunts and tosses the ball at receiver A88.

Play was enforced as follows
Offsides defense #55, five yards from the previous spot.
After the play UNS defense #17, enforced half the distance. This will result in a 1st and 10 at the B 11 yard line.
This is #17 first UNS of the game.

**Due to an accepted penalty the IW disappears.

GAME CLOCK???
Start on the ready for play? Or on the snap??

Thanks in advance

Because Team B will NOT next snap the ball, the clock game clock will start on the referee’s signal.

play ends in the EZ. Wouldn't that make it snap?

The ball may have been in the end zone when it became dead, but it became dead erroneously. It was not a score, or a touchback. Had one of those things happened, that would have governed. Actually, the IW governs the clock, and, by rule, it will start on the referee’s signal. If nothing else happened except the ball became dead naturally, then Team A would accept the penalty, so Team B would not next snap the ball, so, by AR 3-3-5-VIII, the clock will start on the referee’s signal. So, either way, the clock will start on the referee’s signal.
