More tack on thoughts

I was prepping pre-game last week and working on fair catches.  During that process I got to thinking about how tack-on might apply in some of these situations.

A play I was thinking about. 

R1 calls for a fair catch of a scrimmage kick.  K2 is covering the kick and gets close to R1 such that the ball hits K2's helmet and rebounds toward K's goal.  K2 did not give R1 an opportunity to catch the kick.   R3 picks up the ball and runs for another distance where he is tackled.  A flag for fair catch interference is thrown.

So this is a K foul during a kick so we'd tack-on from the succeeding spot.  Does the awarded fair catch still exist?

The tack on rule excludes KCI.

Well, what do you know right there in the rule book parenthetically.

I guess all our mistakes are made right out in the open aren't they....cluttering the darn board with that one.

Your situation, Jackhammer, is the main reason for the ()in the exception under 10-4-2c. If KCI was a tack-on to a long return, then they might also want FK>FG ....a X on many  z^ bucket list :).

Speaking of bucket lists, a trip to Maine is on mine...and I'm sandwiching it in between Fridays here in a couple weeks.

Isn't the ball dead once R possesses the ball after they called for fair catch?

Yes!  Ball is dead when R possesses a scrimmage kick after R gives a fair catch signal, valid or not.  It is also dead if K recovers it beyond the LOS.
