Not difficult, but a 'thinker'

I hope I don't 'catch' anybody on these, but are good reminders of the related rules.

INCLUDE GAME AND PLAY CLOCK STATUS IN YOUR RULINGS.

1)
3/19, B-20, left hash, 0:12 (4), clock stopped, 40-second play clock running, A=17, B=19.

Team A decides to attempt a field goal to win the game, knowing they could still try again on 4th down, if the snap is bad or the kick is blocked (and they legally recover behind the NZ). [They just happen to be smart enough to know that, if they do kick the ball legally, the clock will stop after the down, due to the legal kick down.]

From a normal field goal formation (also a scrimmage kick formation, by rule), the ball is snapped, the kick is made, but it is blocked right at the neutral zone.  The ball falls to the ground at the B-21, in the side zone area.  Several players from both teams attempt to recover the ball.  After several seconds, A11 leaps on the ball (still loose from the kick), and firmly holds the ball in his hands at the B-24 as he rolls on the ground several times before coming to a stop at the B-26, with 0:04 remaining on the game clock.

In both cases, the play clock will be at 25 seconds due to the legal kick. 1 is not an A-B-A situation, because B never possessed the ball.

Like I said, not particularly difficult, but good review for continuity of downs and timing rules in these situations.

I've always wondered why in the rules there's a distinction between the kick going OOB versus not, in terms of continuity of downs.
