A COACH GETS THE GATE IN THE NUTMEG STATE....
« on: January 06, 2022, 10:58:51 AM »
From the Hartford Courant :

"In this case ,the score said it all : 92-4.  :puke:
Sacred Heart defeated Lyman Hall-Wallington by that margin in girls high school basketball on Monday night. ….On Tuesday, Sacred Heart suspended coach Jason Kirck  for one game and issued a statement of remorse.... ."  :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

I believe there is a similar penalty in Connecticut sports for a victory of more that 50 in football the winning coach is gone for a game with a 'git outa' jail free card' only available from the losing team's AD.

While “ running up the score” is not good sportsmanship, a good team thrashing a poor team should not be penalized. If they can only score 4 points in a game, why would they even schedule the game ( unless district ). Is the winning coach supposed to tell his players not to score, purposely let the other team score?  Smh

No, but altering the attack plans can make a positive difference (4, 6, 8 or more passes before ANYONE shoots, sitting your starters sooner rather than later, etc.).

Don't know what Basketball rules provide, but we can "suggest" Coaches agree to shortening periods, rest their starters, limit their play selections.  We help administer a "GAME" designed and intended to teach sportsmanship (hopefully as a "Life lesson" rather than Dominance or Vendetta).  Sometimes other participants might require gentle reminders.

Doesn't always work.

Halftime score 59-0

Private Schools. Home Team (0) first year Varsity.

Visitors Tampa Catholic. Indians Rocks Baptist Coach refused to go to running clock in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

Tampa Catholic Coach asked if he could put 50-79 in the backfield and run. Then asked "Can we take a knee each play?" "Sorry, that's a mockery of the game. We will allow quarterback sneaks all game though." Final score 98-0

A lot depends on the level the game is being played.  Back in the dark ages, when the ONLY clock was kept on the field, WE had a lot more control over how it was run. Back then in a game where the halftime score was in the upper 40's, and the teams were TOTALLY unmatched.  I told the LJ (4man crew) 2 TDs or 10 minutes, whichever comes first ends a quarter.  The dominant team scored on it's first 2 possessions, End of Quarter 3.  The dominant coach finally got the idea, and substituted his starters (who were playing the entire game).

The game ended with a really quick 4th quarter, no additional scoring (for either team) somewhere in the 70s-0 final score, and nobody had to go home and tell their parents they lost 100+ to 0. Hopefully that winning coach learned that winning 70+ to 0 can be as satisfying as totally destroying & embarrassing another team.  What goes around, often comes back around.
