The question we then have to ask is if these rule changes do anything to lessen those injuries.  There certainly isn't anything other than anecdotal evidence that they do.  So we're changing rules on emotional decisions, not scientific reasoning.
Better answers might be LAWYERS and LIABILITY... and being scared of both.

Simple question here and just thought this thread was appropriate.   What is the signal for kicking team offsides on a free kick?   Is that encroachment (S18) or the illegal formation signal (S19).   Regardless, I know we kill the play.
Thanks!

There is no such thing as "offsides" in FED rules.

If the kicking team enters the neutral zone prior to the kick, they have encroached, which is the encroachment signal.

If you are wondering about them violating the new "no more than 5 yards deep or the ridiculous "at least 4 on either side of the kicker from RFP to kick" rule, those also use the encroachment signal as they are dead ball fouls.  Illegal formation (which makes more sense) is a live ball foul.

Whoops - I told my B to use S19 (the false start signal) Friday night.  Dang - can't believe I missed that.

VALJ- I believe you were correct with the false start signal.

Nope, I am wrong. The book says Signal 7 & 18 (dead ball / encroachment).
