If one of the intentions of the new free kick positioning rule is to spread players out, will K still be able to run a "bunch" onside kick?
As long as they keep at least 4 on either side of the kicker, and don't start more than 5 yards back, sure.

But as soon as teams get good at that, the FED will change the rule again requiring 2 yards between every pair of players!

Now line up 11 guys 5 yards back of the ball all standing side to side and tell me who the kicker is.  There isn't a kicker until someone kicks the damn ball.

Better be one of the three guys in the middle who kicks the ball, then.  Now, good luck telling that unless you've got someone in the middle with them...

Which is exactly what it sounds like the mechanic is probably going to be for our state.

Taking the numbers a step further, it would be interesting to know how may injuries occur per play type. The hard part would be defining what is an injury.
Not the answer to "how dangerous are kickoffs?" but an answer to "how dangerous is football?" was found :( .
Injury rates per 1,000 athletes per sport for 2012-13 season

                  Football                                          14.3
                  Girl's soccer                                      6.6
                  Boy's ice hockey                                5.7
                  Boy's lacrosse                                   4.7
                    .
                        .
                            .
                  Boy's swimming                                  0.2

Translated to Mama Bear & Papa Bear : Football is twice as dangerous for Baby Bear to play as any other sport :o ??? ::) :'( :!# . Translated to we of football nation : Football injuries and the concern of concussions have put us in the media's eye. We need to do all that we can to pass and enforce rules to reduce these figures (12.1 occur ed during a game). I 've heard that 100 years ago the most popular sport among high-school age boys was...Golden Gloves Boxing - every Boy's Club and Community Center had a team. I worry about 100 years from now, people talking about "that brutal game called football :-[". We need to do all we can to ensure that our beloved game survives. deadhorse:

For us, with a 5 man crew, the U stays with the kicker, so it won't be a problem.  Not sure how our association will handle things with a 7 man crew - have the U and B (who are on K's restraining line) count and confirm with each other, like the L and H do to ensure 7 on the LOS, I guess...

Unless it was changed this year, 7-man CCA mechanics give R that responsibility. Is it crazy to have to watch something 65 yards away? Yes. But it is what it is.
