Super Bowl incomplete pas to Jerricho Cotchery
« on: February 12, 2016, 08:53:32 AM »
What did you guys think of the overruled catch?

My reasoning was: the ball can hit the ground, but cannot come loose after it hits the ground. Which it did, so I agree it's an incomplete pass.

But who am I? ;)

I thought it was incomplete, too. To my eyes, the ball hit the ground, came loose, and then was secured.

I guessed it was incomplete before the officials ruled it incomplete.....

I thought it was incomplete after the zoom-in/slow-mo/freeze frame and while the officials were thinking about it.......

I knew it was incomplete after Mike Cary said it was complete....

I feel it's now time to check the progress of the Red Sox equipment truck on its way to Ft. Myers......

Have a good weekend, y'all tiphat:

Honestly, after watching many replays, I *still* don't have the ball ever touching the ground. That said, I can't be certain it *didn't* either, which is why replay upholding the call on the field was the right move.

Where exactly do you see the football touch the ground? There is not one view that shows the ball touch the ground. There is an instance where the nose of the ball is blocked from view because of the player's arm. His hand is under the ball the entire time, then when one part of the ball is obscured does the ball move. There is only one determination that I can see where the decision was no catch. Because there is no absolute indisputable evidence to reverse the ruling on the field. That one moment where the nose of the ball is obscured and the ball then moves.

My winter sports are limited to being a pint judge at the U-Maine hockey games. My wobbly
trips on double-runners prevented any on-ice capacity. ;)

There is indeed no "indesputable" evidence to either confirm or reverse any ruling on the field. However, if you look at it from every provided angle, and you're asked to make a call based on it. Wouldn't you say incomplete?

On the field assuming I had all the views at slo-mo I'd say complete.

However as the call on the field was incomplete then I agree that the replay should say stands as called.

23 seconds of the link #92 posted - the ball is pretty clearly touching the ground to my eyes.  As he rolled over, the ball came loose.   ^no

That said, I wish NFHS would just release the darn rule changes, so we can discuss all the potential pitfalls there..  ;D
