Headsets

Help me out here - I don't have a rulebook handy and I can't recall - is there any stipulation in NFHS rules that if one team's headsets go out that the other team must discontinue using theirs?

Many years ago, headsets stayed with the stadium, because they were hard wired.  In those days, I don't know if it was a FED rule, a local rule or just an agreement, but if one team's headsets went out, the other team removed theirs as well.

Now, each team is responsible for their own headsets, the near 100% of which are wireless and portable.  If your headsets go out, too bad for you.

I actually remember using an old dial up phone to communicate with coaches in the press box between series at some locations.

Casebook page 12..  1.6.2 Sit B will give you the guidence.  It's a not an officials problem unless your state association says otherwise.

That's an NFL thing.

That's an NFL thing.

That's because, as with the old hard wired systems, the headsets belong to the stadium, not each team.  And there are so many reduncies in the NFL systems, you won't see them go down.  Each headset has 12 different frequencies available to it, completely unique to anything else in the stadium.  There are also a complete second system available to each team in case it's a hardware problem.
