3rd and 8. A8 is in a scrimmage kick formation,  kicks the ball straight up in the air and never crosses the NZ. A8 recovers his own kick and runs 4 yards. It's now 4/4.  What's the clock status?

Snap
A advances their own kick because the kick was recovered behind the NZ... I will differ and say 'on the ready'

Edit: disregard... Just saw 'Texas Topic'... Not NFHS

As an aside, there is never an option to start on the ready, as if the clock didn't stop due to the legal kick, it didn't stop for anything, so it would be running.

I was going to ask, who stopped the clock and why.   I am curious as to who they thought would have stopped it if they thought it needed to be started again.

  • The rules are there if you need them.

This is still a legal kick down, even though the kick failed to cross the NZ.  By NCAA rule, the clock is to be stopped at the end of the down for ANY legal kick down.  Also by rule, if the next down is to begin by a snap, the clock begins on the snap.  There is no UIL exception for this rule, so the clocks stops at the end of the down, and starts on the next snap.
