UNS on the coach
« on: September 25, 2017, 11:27:38 AM »
In my Friday night game we had an ejection on a player for punching another player.    We got together and while I was sorting it out and before I could talk to the HC, we got a big loud "F^%$ You" from the HC when he realized the player was being ejected.  He got a UNS for that (1st and only for the game) but could have I ejected him on that alone?

Yes, you could have. Rule 9-8-1a, 1c and 1d. Using profanity, disrespectfully addressing a game official, and indicating objections to a game official's decision.

"Any single foul judged by the game official to be flagrant is disqualification."

He broke 3 rules in 2 words. Efficient? Yes. Possible trip to the locker room? Also, yes.

Absolutely no question about that one. If a coach or player says that to me, he's gone.

Are 2 words worth $500?  I guess he thought they were.

Not only would he be tossed, but I'd break out my baseball umpire mechanic to chuck him.

Perhaps. Also, around here the booster clubs are quick to take up a donation for their coach after an ejection.

If I'm the white hat and a coach says that, he's done for the day.

Agreed. I'll put up with a lot, and if it's something like "you guys suck", I'll give him 15 and he can stay in the game.  That one, on the other hand, is a one-and-done.

Exactly.  Between football and wrestling, I try to not have on radar ears and will let the coach know that I had no interest in his conversation until he begged for my attention "YOU......"

That's Flagrant and the head coach is DQ'd.
Remember, after you inform him he is DQ'd, you need to ask him who his new HC will be for the purpose of calling Timeouts.   :!#

"Hey, Ref!  Blank you!"

"Coach, who do you want calling time outs the rest of the night?"

"Why?"

If a player is disqualified in our area, it's a $250 fine for the school.  Had one AD tell me that the fine is passed along to the player's parents and the player can't graduate until it's paid.  Sounded like a reasonable idea to me.  Not sure how it works with coaches.

Yeah, except where I'm from, I know players who don't even know where their parents are. Kinda tough on them.

Given what's in the news for college basketball over the past few days, I think we can safety assume there could be a possible source.

Around here coaches get fined $100 and has to take the NFHS course "Teaching and Modeling Behavior."
