ART. 6 . . . After a huddle or shift all 11 players of A shall come to an absolute
stop and shall remain stationary simultaneously without movement of hands,
feet, head or body for at least one second before the snap.
I see more and more movement let go these days since no huddle is the norm. Any movement of players prior to the snap is a shift and all must follow 7-2-6. I see lots of hand movement all the time and it is never called. Why is that?

Do you call a shift or false start when an receiver is rolling his hands like a referee on a field goal? I don't
Is there an advantage gained?
-
so why have a rule that prohibits such movement. It clearly says the action you described is illegal.

Probably because most good officials don't go looking for boogers.

Dang it Rulesman! I'll need a new keyboard now since my water, which was in my mouth, is now all over the keyboard LOL

While I concur that we shouldn't be picking the fly #@%$ out of pepper, I believe this is a very poorly worded rule (I've brought this wording up before).
Ralph, can't we do a better job of matching the wording to the actual intent of this rule? pray:; yEs:

So is holding, but we don't flag that if it doesn't affect the play.

Wow, I would have bet $100 someone was going to past that!
-
Not enough going on at work again, bigjohn? Isn't there an opponent you need to scout?
I swear we've tilted at this windmill before.

I can't speak for the Rules Committee, but IMHO, I feel we should allow the offensive players to breathe :). To me, a shift is a player "relocating" (2-39) and a false start is a lunge, twitch, quick movement that looks like the play has started (Other then the interior linemen, moving fingers/arms/heads/etc , shouldn't be a big deal. Sometime last century, shotgun QBs began lifting their leg to send a man in motion. I became confused :o ??? ::)...we he breaking wind ??? ??? ..or was he false starting ??? ???... I phoned NFHS. I was told this had been occurring in most other states for several years, no advantage was being gained and we should let the kids play.
My vote is for letting the kids play...DON'T LOOK FOR FLY POOP IN THE PEPPER SHAKER

thank you, Ralph!!

Then edit the rule to say, reasonably still for 1 full second!
ART. 6 . . . After a huddle or shift all 11 players of A shall come to an absolute
stop and shall remain reasonably stationary, simultaneously, for at least one second before the snap.

And then figure out a way to define "reasonably stationary" well enough to satisfy the rulebook lawyers. :sTiR: deadhorse: hEaDbAnG
-
]reasonably stationary
:sTiR: Clear as mud. :o
-
reasonably
Dictionary.com - reasonably: "not exceeding the limit prescribed by reason; not excessive: "
As opposed to absolutely, thus no problem.
Tilt on!!!!!!!!!!!!!
