True, but that wasn't the case in the Nebraska case.  In that case, Nebraska chose to kick, not which end to defend.Someone screwed up.

A very respected, very successful HS coach in our area, long sice retired ALWAYS elected to kick when his team won the toss.  He claimed he had statistics to back his premis that he more often would up with better first time field position if he were to first kick off. 

His position was that High School players are better adapted to start a game playing defense (natural aggression) than offense (analytical execution). He was clearly a defense minded coach.
