3rd down kick - you make the call

4th Quarter 1:30 left. 13-13.

Team A: 3rd down and 30 from A10. Team A plans a quick-kick on 3rd down to get out of trouble. A1 receives snap from shot gun, kicks it, blocked by B at A8. A1 recovers kick in his own end zone, avoids tacklers and gets out to the A5 where he is tackled.

What's the call?

4th and 35 from the A5.  Ball never crossed the NZ, still belongs to A.

Case play 6.2.3 Situation B part (b) is pretty much exactly what you're looking for.

Even if the ball crossed the NZ, the ball was recovered (in or) behind the neutral zone by A.
