Apple Watch 40/25 clock app
« on: June 07, 2019, 04:37:15 PM »
I’m wondering what the interest would be from folks on the forum for an Apple Watch app for the 40/25 play clock timer? I’m still working on developing it, hoping to have it finished this weekend. If there is no interest I can use it for myself for free but if I want to distribute it I would need to pay for a developer account at $99/year. I’m willing to bear the cost if there is interest.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Can you program the 40 to “tap” or otherwise alert the BJ at the 25 second mark so he can tell the R to reset to 25 if the ball hasn’t been set?  That’s the feature that’s missing from the market right now.  I’d buy the app.

I'd buy that app in a heartbeat. I'm currently using a HIIT timer, which is a workable solution but very much suboptimal.

Features I'd like to have:

- Large button for 40s
- Large button for 25s
- Vibrations at 25s (for 40s, like FLAHL said), 15s, 10s and 5s

Apple watch, no, but an Android version would be of interest.

I would also want it to be configurable as IFAF uses some differences in timing e.g. IFAF kept the 20s cutoff for spotting the ball when NCAA moved to 15s.

Still working on it. Got a little complicated because the Apple Watch to conserve power doesn’t allow standard apps to run in the background so the timer would stop running when you lowered your wrist. Not exactly ideal ;D. But it works great beside that so it’s promising.

So then I had to learn how to setup HealthKit so I can run the app in the background. Still working on it though. You can see the app in some screenshots attached. Ignore the right hand timer shown as it will not be there in the final release.

Right now the 40 second vibrates at 25 and 5 seconds and of course 0, the 25,5 and 0 are all different patterns. The 25 vibrates at 5 and 0. The timeout vibrates at 15 and 0.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to support android.

Well good news. I have gotten background mode working on my watch so there are just a few more bugs to work out and then I’ll have to figure out the App Store ;D

A bit off topic and on topic, what does everyone use as a game timer app for the Apple Watch? I plan to get this app, however, it looks like this is designed for the 40/25 clocks alone. I am at the point where I still put some time in as the line judge and perform timekeeping duties. I have used the Apple Watch’s default countdown timer in the past. Wondering if there is anything that works better?

I have only ever timed one game from on the field but I would think the standard timer app would work pretty well for the purpose, the problem is that the pause and resume button is so close to reset. I don’t know if any other good ones though.

I've downloaded RefSupport which is actually made for soccer refs, but it seems pretty decent even for football. Haven't yet tried it out on a game, though.

Beta Testers needed! The app seems to be complete. But I only have my own hardware to work with. If you want to beta test it for free, please PM me the following info. Your name, your email, what iPhone you use and what Apple Watch you will be testing on (generation and screen size).

Thanks for your help!

If anyone is using the Ready Ref, here are the instructions to have it adjusted for the new rule change.
