Unruly fans/UC foul question
« on: September 11, 2018, 10:57:36 AM »
Small school varsity game.

Fans of Team A in their lawn chairs near 20 yd line, but 10 yds or so away from sideline (small field not very many places to sit).

Fan taunts Team B player after a play, who then retaliates with plenty of vulgarity & (heated game from the opening kickoff).

•Unsporstmanlike conduct foul on Team B player?
•Remove fan/s with Administrator?
•Unsporstmanlike conduct foul on Team A bench for fans (can that even be done)?

Any insight would be great!!!

Definitely use game admin to help you with the fans.  We also want a Incident Report.  Fans are not subject to rules as regards penalties but game can Be suspended until admin makes conditions safer.

Ah I see. What about a scenario where you have a fan/fans in the team area (not knowing they are fans) and they do the same? Would that UC foul be on the coaching staff and or bench?

Oh yeah, if coach lets them in there he is taking responsibility for them and they are now part of the team.  Team UNS

Anyone in team area is subject to game rules. Anyone not in team area is subject to administrative rules.

It would have to be really bad from the opposite team player to get a penalty if egged on like that. Don’t want to set the example of how to get cheap penalties on the other team.

Sorry for the dumb question but I'm new here. What constitutes the team area?

Go to the link and download a pdf version of the NCAA rules for 2018.  Start at page one on rule one and begin learning the very basics about the field, uniforms, ball, etc.  That will answer your question and lots of others.

NCAA rules are organized in chapters called "Rules."  Obviously, each chapter contains many, many actual rules for playing and administering the game.  Quite deliberately, the most basic things are set out in Rule 1 - The Game, Field, Players and Equipment, and Rule 2 - Definitions.  As TexDoc alludes, start there.  Then, I suggest moving to Rule 7, then Rule 6, then Rule 3, then Rule 9, then Rule 10, then Rule 8, then Rule 4 and, finally, Rule 5.  Forget about rule 12 for a very long time.

When you're done, read rule 10 again.  Then at the beginning of each year, read rule 10 again.
