Ralph Damren:
We had this last night and I wanted to hear your opinions...
(1) LOS @ 50, 1st & 10;
(2) A1 runs sweep toward left;
(3) A2 holds @ A's 48;
(4) A1 doesn't like what he sees and reverses his field;
(5) A1 bumps into A3 and ball jarred loose;
(6) lucky bounce brings ball right back to A1;
(7) A1 finally sacked at A's 40....
??? ??? ??? ??? ??? (5-man crew) ...WHERE'S THE ENFORCEMENT SPOT?
CalhounLJ:
I say penalty if accepted is enforced from previous spot. If declined it’s next down at the 40.
Everything up through #6 is part of the loose ball play.

Fumble in or behind the neutral zone is a loose ball play, including the run proceeding the fumble. Previous spot would be the enforcement spot. 1st and 20 from the A 40 if accepted and 2nd and 20 from the A 40 if declined. Hopefully B declined and took the down. :)
Ralph Damren:
Good job, guys, on picking up the loose ball play. While the basic spot is the previous spot, the enforcement spot - under all but one- would be A's 48. If the fumble (it was more like a dribble) had not occurred , the enforcement spot would be the end of the run.
