Tough angle from the camera.  Difficult to tell if the pass was forward or not...

Comments?

The passer doesn't step back to throw from where he receives the snap.

The receiver does step back, but then leans forward a bit to catch the pass.

I can't imagine how we can determine anything from this video;: based on it's angle and quality.

It's nothing except a judgment call.

However, there is no wing near that receiver.  Was this a 4-man crew and that particular wing went downfield to cover a punt?  Or was this a 3-man crew?

The official that stands with the R when the B coach is earning a USC is neither the U or the official that was deep (who signalled the wind and then the stop the clock).  So perhaps this official is the HL when the LJ went downfield?

OR:

The wing official isn't obvious due to the speed at which the camera pans to pick up the catch near the SL.

My understanding is that this was a 5-man crew.  The BJ is the official at the end who winds the clock.  The LJ is standing with the R when the coach is going ballistic.  Perhaps the LJ moved downfield when he read pass at the snap, and had to work his way back to the play...

Did you read my part after the word OR?

Can't help wondering what the response was to the pre-game question, "Any unusual plays you want to warn us about tonight, coach"?

In my opinion you have an illegal shift as the receiver who ultimately throws the ball was a little excited before the pass and was rocking back and forth and never was set for 1 second.

Another question would be... it looks from this angle that the player who threw the ball was covering up the receiver who caught the ball.

Finally, considering how close to the line the receiver was it is unlikely that pass was backward.

I was caught in one of these situations with very unhappy coach.  Had a forward pass that was designed to be a "lateral" and then he threw it backwards across the field back to the QB who then threw it downfield.  It didn't help that I was the only one with a flag on the play.

Based on what I saw, it DEFINITELY was "nothing". (The link no longer works)  >:D
