HUDL Stuff (1)
« on: February 16, 2015, 09:47:10 AM »
It is that time of year again where the board starts to get really boring.  I am posting some HUDL clips.  You do not need to have a HUDL account to view these clips simply click on the link.  There is a presidents meeting this weekend.  Lets show the TASO brass that we want stuff like this to be posted.  We can post it here and then have a discussion.  This first clip is my pre game clip for my 2nd rd playoff game.  This is a very advanced clip and obviously not everyone should be able to do a clip like this. It is very long.  A pre game clip every week is not a lot to ask.  We were lucky that these two playoff teams played earlier in the year.  It was the game where the Galveston Daily News bashed the refs that was a hot Topic earlier this year.  Most of the clips are me but there are a couple of supplementary pieces.

Discussion Points

Questions Raised on the Plays

Should TASO release plays like this once a week for discussion

Do you find value in plays like this

Here is the Link

Lets Discuss!!!  Feel free to share

I am gonna put it out there.  Stuff like this WAS done last year.  It was presented via BrainShark.  A  beauty of BrainShark is that it tracks the number of views.  The percentage of our 5000 plus members who looked at it was atrociously small. I believe some of that may have been unfamiliarity with the system but the real issue IMHO was lack of interest.  There are guys who ARE interested and who DO want to learn.  But I am afraid they continue to represent the minority.

Using HUDL and tinyurl does offer some real advantages but there are also legitimate concerns about keeping the material within the Association.

Another issue is the pool of material available.  We need to expand it beyond the 2 Chapters where most of the material comes from now.

There has already been a commitment made to put something out weekly in season and bi-weekly or monthly offseason.  Just need to work through the mechanics of how we do that.

First time I have heard of Brain Shark.  What email address are they sending it to?  I want to get the emails if they are coming out.  Is there a feed back function where we can discuss?

Never heard of brain shark also. Seems if they wanted us to use it, they could let us know about it.

I put in name and email( all that was asked) but on video it says all criteria not met. Is there a super secret password involved?

That just means you have not viewed the whole presentation.  Did you see a list of slides on the left side of the screen?  That is the presentation

button a bottom to track the video moves but picture does not advance. Still says criteria not completed.

Guess that is why not many have used brainshark!  ;D

See the attached image.  Is this what you are seeing on the screen?  I have also heard that some internet browsers require popups be allowed for this to work.  Which browser are you using?

Coby,

Can you put the clip on the Houston chapter site library?  I can't get it to open from the link above.

There's a good book by Todd Skaggs who has a really good line in there about what he tells people who ask him how to move up in their officiating career. There are 4-5 different things but the one that I remember the most and try to adhere to is "1 who will 99 wont." Meaning that of 100 officials, there will be one guy who will go the extra mile. Watch offseason video, read the rulebook, commit to an offseason workout program. You'd want to be the 1 who does it, not part of the 99 who wont. FTR, I think the majority of this board are made up of the 1's, not so much the 99.

I for one found this video to be incredibly helpful!
Speaking as someone who worked in Michigan... we rarely got video at all, much less end-zone or full play breakdowns.  This might be the 2nd best thing for training officials next to actually taking live snaps.

It finally started working, I did not have sound on and did not know there was a set up to each clip. Will these be continued this year?

Very helpful.  I know for certain that I will take away lessons on jet sweeps, and kick coverages, both when the play breaks down before the kick and on proper mechanics and coverage downfield after the kick.

If anyone is a guru at putting together the game film, I would love to learn more about the video editing technical details...I have a Mac, so I like stuff to "just work" but in my experience (albeit limited) most officials are older and not super tech-savvy...Id love to be able to bring this asset to any crew I am a part of.
