National Federation Discussion / Re: SANTA'S WISH LIST....2026 version

Back from 'Windy Indy" after the NFHS Football Rules Committee meeting. As always, my lips are sealed until a NFHS press release announces the rule changes to the entire world. My prediction is that will occur somewhere between Ground Hog Day and Valentine's Day. I can share that a touchdown is still worth six points!

The whole super secret insider club BS with the NFHS Rules Committee is so stupid.  Black Box rule making goes a long way towards all the complete disasters they come up with for language...

General Discussion / Re: Ncaa Weapons Rule?

All in all, for college football this past season was there a "line in the sand" and nothing weapon-related was allowed, or were there sone exceptions due to long-standing traditions? (i.e. Okie State and others)

General Discussion / Ncaa Weapons Rule?
« Last post by TampaSteve on January 14, 2026, 08:46:28 AM »
Was watching a college wrestling match recently With Okie State. Frequently saw the Cow Poke fans and wrestlers with their pistol fingers in the air.
Had me thinking: did this affect how the Okie State football players did their pistol symbol last season?
Since forever, Okie State does their pistol deal, but with ncaa fb stating they cant do 'weapons celebrations' - I assume it was across the board, or was a team like Okie State granted an exception since it is not the gimmick celebration of the day?
Curious

NCAA Discussion / Re: What is your ruling?

I know the question was about the ruling rather than the officiating, but in practice, should we just holler at the kicker to leave the tee where it is? It would comport with our philosophy of doing extra preventative officiating on free kicks. We almost never blow it ready if a team has 10 or 12 players, and "We're not gonna have any DOGs on kickoffs" is standard pregame language at every level.

Yeah, I have been known to use ‘creative’ officiating to keep from having to enforce something after the fact, knowing fully well that making such a call, although completely righteous, would create an extended, and unfriendly, discussion with the offending team. In this instance, interrupting the game to check the ball, to make sure it was an approved ball for that team, would work quite well, to alert the kicker that, after the referee makes the ball ready for play, once he puts the ball on the tee on the ground, he is locked in to that spot to kick the ball. Problem solved, with less fuss and muss.

What if the schools were on the hook for fines instead of the players? Create a dedicated uniform police as the NFL does, have them sit and watch and note the numbers of noncompliant players, and then after every game notify the schools that they had N uniform violations and have forfeited 0.XYZ% of their postseason revenue, or revenue sharing, or some other source of income that the NCAA has control over (there must exist one such money stream, right?).

I've said this for years and even mentioned it to a very high ranking individual with the NCAA 10-12 years ago (I'm pretty sure it went in one ear and out the other), but I'm not holding my breath that something like this will ever happen.  If the NCAA was truly concerned about uniforms, they would do something like this.

That would make sense. If the schools get fined for non-compliant uniforms, it might create an incentive for them to actually police uniform compliance and not leave it to the officials, who are probably told to look the other way, at least in the major conferences.
