Bands

jra104:
When is UIL and TASO going to have the officials enforce the band playing when the snap is imminent?  Watched a few playoff games this weekend and the use of the band to interrupt the snap count is getting out of hand.  What's yall thoughts on this?

Had a game at end of regular season and this was happening i could easily hear it on the field but never heard the coach say anything about and actually players on the bench had some noise or chant they were saying prior to or at the snap.  In my opinion the coaches need to say something before we ever get involved.

Exactly. I used to take this on, but got tired of it. Funny. When I stopped, still haven’t heard a complaint from a team. With a complaint, I’d have done something about it. No complaint - not gettin’ involved. I think you’ll find this approach somewhat pervasive.
If the UIL wants it stopped, so easy. Let the teams send video with audio to the UIL. Suspend the bands that violate the rule. That will stop it quickly. Stop piling this kind of stuff on game officials. Let us stick to holding, PI, formations, targeting - real football stuff. Let the UIL take on bands and uniforms.

I have not seen a clip of it (yet), but was told that a white threatened a 15 yard penalty on fans blowing horns this past weekend. Don't know if it was really the band, or the fans, or if a coach complained about it to the crew.

It's fans using those horns.  They are small horns that pack a loud noise when everyone is blowing them together.   My niece bought one and next thing you know all her friends bought them and decorated the team name on them.  As officials,  we have no jurisdiction over these.  They are called,  "The Loud Cup".  Look it up on Google.
