The NFL videos showed during the webinar mentioned holding in relation to rip moves and their timing. There wasn't additional discussion on that topic from the presenter. It was my understanding that the rip move concept is an NFL philosophy and does not translate into college or high school.
Is that correct or is this something that we need to start evaluating?
Never used that element when talking about holding previously. So few UIL players have any idea how to make a real "rip" move, it just isn't much of a problem. But, let me see what I can find out.
What I don't like about discussions like that is when they start talking about "consistency." Yes, we DO want to be consistent. We always hear that the #1 thing coaches want is "consistency." But, the truth is, coaches don't give one rats bohunkus about consistency. All that means to them is to let them do whatever they want, but call everything on their opponent. Have you ever heard of a coach complaining about a call that went against their opponent? Never in the history of the Universe. Was it a 'consistent' call? They don't care, if it is on their opponent.
Yes, we should care about consistency, and work hard to understand philosophies tailored for the level of game we're working. But, I pay no attention to a coach complaining about being consistent.
