1-4-8-b surprise
« on: July 03, 2025, 01:37:48 PM »
Anybody notice 2025 1-4-8-b? Different than 2024.
Nothing necessarily monumental, but this editorial/rule change has not been documented in any way that I know. Not in the indices, nor in any publication or rule change video of which I am aware. Looks like the NCAA is attempting to strengthen enforcement of mandatory and illegal equipment rules.
Bottom line: For the first equipment violation, the player gets sent off, and the coach gets a warning that another violation by any player will result in a charged team time out. If that team chooses to take a time out, or is charged with a time out, the player may return for the next down, if the equipment is corrected. On the second violation, if they do not have a T/O available, then they get a DOG foul, and the player may NOT return for the next down.

New. Not difficult. But, kinda hidden.

Anybody had this discussed in any NCAA clinics?

Good catch Robert, first I have seen this.....

I can’t take credit for finding it. Hans Lammerhirt in Germany sent me a message asking about it. But, when I started investigating, none of my FBS/FCS contacts were aware of it, and nether was the state officials association here in Texas (we use (most) NCAA rules).
But, we know it now. I am waiting for my FBS/FCS contacts to attend their conference meetings and see if this gets this discussed in those meetings. Who knows? Maybe they aren’t talking about this because they want us to treat this like an advance after a catch following a fair catch signal - just ignore it.  >:(
