That still doesn’t answer the question regarding a fake throw to a base: Does it count as a pickoff ‘attempt’ under the new MLB rules? Logically, for the intended purpose of speeding up the game, a fake to a base would also seem to qualify as an ‘attempt,’ but I certainly don’t know. If anybody knows, or can find out for certain, please advise.

Legacy Zebra:
Whether the pitcher throws to a base or not is irrelevant. You get two disengagements from the rubber. That can be simply stepping off to reset, throwing to a base, or faking a throw. They all count the same.
