UIL and Officials
(1/1)
Disciple4G:
As I have been watching various live streams in recent weeks, I have noticed the UIL commercial about verbally abusing officials and becoming an official. I think when we want to change the culture with the fans, coaches, and players, public awareness through things like this commercial are vital. Kudos to the UIL for drawing attention to the problem and using it as a recruiting tool!
I also believe that the UIL should require the streamers to strongly encourage the commentators of the game to avoid being overly critical of officials. I was watching a game Dec 13th where there were multiple times the guys in the booth were using words describing calls/non calls as horrible, terrible, outrageous, unbelievable. Yes, they were homers. Still not ok.
The UIL and NCAA are clear on what is considered acceptable behavior, but do the streamers get held to that standard as well? Does TASO or the UIL have this on their radar?
ElvisLives:
The short answer to your question is that the UIL are coaches and superintendents (many, many of whom were coaches). What’s that tell you? “What’s good for thee…doesn’t apply to me.”
Txgarza:
We must have been watching the same games. I too was frustrated with their comments and told my wife how they don’t complain if a call for “their” team wasn’t called or was for their benefit. They have no idea of mechanics or philosophies we use. I rewatched one of my games and announcers were beating us up too!! 😂

The guy doing Angleton radio vs Smithson Valley slammed the officials on every call and made up some BS everytime. He looked like a bad impression of Bob Ross the old painter.
