Title: USC for wrong jersey color
Post by: golfingref on September 08, 2013, 04:10:26 PM
Apparently Arkansas St. was penalized at the start of each half for wearing their new road gray jerseys which did not contrast enough with Auburn's navy blue. I had never seen that called before.

Harsin's response to the question comes across as a little arrogant to me. And if those are A-State's new road jerseys, I suspect this is not going to be the last time that call will be made. They play at Memphis on Sep 21 where the home colors are blue and gray. Stay tuned...  ^flag

"That was my decision," Arkansas State coach Bryan Harsin said.

When asked if he made the decision knowing it would lead to two penalties, the first-year coach shouldered more of the blame.

"I think that's something for our team and that was the decision I made and wouldn't change it," he said.

I don't really percieve it as arrogant.  The underlying answer in Jamie Dukes "Say What?  parlance is this- "adidas made these really super-cool jerseys for us.  The kids love them.  We are the weak sister to our Arkansas behemoth brother and need to pull out all the stops to draw attention to ourselves as we are surrounded by SEC giants.  I took the hit as we probably weren't going to get by Auburn anyway."

I was there when Michigan played Air Force who wore grey jerseys/pants and they weren't penalized. The only other time I've seen that was when Southern Mississippi wore their home yellow against Troy who was dressed in red in the New Orleans Bowl a few years back. USM lost a timeout in the first half and that was it, even though those were pretty contrasting colors.
