Apparently some fellas wanted a new design of shirt for Texas HS football. If you were one of them , what are the benefits?
-
Put me solidly in the "meh... I don't care" camp. I do think the 2" stripe look is cleaner.
I'm not sure how the NCAA decided they want a monopoly on the basic 2" stripe look without any other shading, but I guess they can do that.
-
I agree I do not care either way as well but it is a cleaner look with black pants.
-
I wrote in camouflage shirt with camouflage pants.
I would like some dryfit material to wear as a shirt.
-
Change for change sake. Just leave it alone.
-
Can anyone post a screen shot of the proposed shirts from the survey? I already took it and it won't let me back in.
-
Here's what Alabama is going to (optional this year, required next year):

The patch is dyed into the shirt material.

It is a lot like Alabama's high school shirts, I like it, and being from Texas I enjoy being different yEs:
-
Coby, most everyone has a lightweight poly shirt that works like the various big companies' "dry___" shirts. Smitty is the one I buy. I haven't worn a doubleknit poly ref shirt in either football or basketball in well over a decade.
-
I voted but do not really care either way. The new design does look good.

I could live with these, it'd be complementary to the black pants. I don't really care for the TASO patch on the chest but I like the Texas flag on the sleeve.
The price is the part that hurts. Yikes.
-
I like the style...... but after buying two new shirts this year, new shorts for sub-varsity, etc.... I'm ready to take a TASO uniform break.
-
I like the new design as well and as far as having to buy a new shirt I do every year anyway. I buy a varsity shirt and hat every year and pass down the last years shirt for sub varsity. They start to look faded after on season. especially this year after all the muddy games.
-
One more thing I'll add. If we go to these, can we ditch the placards? After wearing one this season, I really don't think there's a redeeming quality to those.
-
Are you kidding? ? The placards made guys college officials. Definitely improved their performance. Just like these shirts will make them look like NFL guys. We are gonna be GREAT !!!! hEaDbAnG
-
Placards help the fans know who to complain to when the game is over! ;D
-
sounds like many who complained when we went to pants. Now everyone loves them. Just give them a try and remember that change can be good.
-
Huge difference. The pants change was more than just a different "look". The pants permit the "full figured fella" to move much more easily. What actual physical benefit does a different shirt design provide?
-
Since the stripes are wider then it makes for a thinning look! Therefore you feel better! LOL
-
No, no, no, a thousand times no...
We just bought sublimated shirts with placards and need to get the ROI out of them LOL

No, this is more like the change to put a white stripe on subvarsity shorts.

This, too. hEaDbAnG

I voted no. I don't like placards either...in HS games, there are too many vacancies on crews and that creates a headache that isn't needed.
No need to change the shirts. What we have works fine.

Placket not placard

I think I will stick with placard

And finally...from your own beloved AF...

Then you'll forever be wrong LOL

If it is good enough for the AF it is good enough for me

Same church, different pew. ;)

How is this a headache? You simply don't wear that shirt for that game. Always have a "clean" shirt (in more ways than one!).

Somehow, I get the feeling that someone thinks if we look more like the college guys we will be more credible. Maybe that perception is real, but I would sure like to think not. Just like wearing placards (yes Brad, placards :) ) was supposed to make us more credible or better officials or look better, or whatever. I think that test is proof that a piece of fabric doesn't make an official any better. I'm not against placards, but my crew doesn't wear them. I would go along with them if the consensus was to wear them. I just don't think they make you any better, so why.
As for the new shirts, why? Really, why? Is this a perception thing again, or just changing times, what? I personally see no reason to change, but if that's what the majority wants, okay. But, I just bought I new sublimated shirt this year and it should last me at least 3 or 4 seasons. I'll roll with the changes, I just don't understand the need to change. If the new shirts are adopted, I would certainly think it should be implemented at least two to three years down the road so we don't all have to buy new shirts immediately. Let us wear out the present ones first.
-
Where are yall buying these shirts that last 3-4 years. I am lucky to get two :o ;D
-
Man, y'all are rough on shirts. I've never 'had' to buy a new shirt for a season. I've got some from 7-8 years ago that, if we were still in skinny stripes, I'd be able to wear.
-
I don't know how wearing a shirt for 15 to 20 games a season and subsequently getting washed only that many times a year can wear it out. Mine usually last 3 to 4 years just fine. They are not made of a material that quickly degrades with each washing, so they certainly should last that long.

You need to get a new water softener, clothes washer, or laundry service

Remember, Doc's a Referee, so doesn't sweat much. >:D

You all may be comparing different types.of materials. The old double knit polyester shirts will last forever but are not so comfortable.
The performance fabric shirts in my opinion are more comfortable but don't seem to hold up as well. Both Honig's shirts I have faded badly after two seasons (though with a lot of subvarsity in the afternoon sun had a lot to do with it).
The Ump Attire shirts I have just went through their second season with no discernible fading. The fabric though is pilling more than a little where it tucks in.

My subvarsity shirt gets used on average 30times a season. By the next season it has faded somewhat and so I pass down my varsity shirt and buy a new one for Varsity. Of course this next year I will not be able to do that because I bought the new shirts with the patches built in including an H

Yet another reason not to have placards! deadhorse:

I sweat in a snowstorm.
My SV shirt gets used 5 or 6 times a year so that helps. I have a dedicated varsity shirt that always lasts several years, no fading, etc. Maybe I just have a great wife!!!

I may be in minority here but I hate them and I wish as a chapter we would drop them. When you go to placing them on shirts if not sewn on right or attched another way they simply look bad.
If we do a shirt change I hope TASO elects not to use them. Getting into too many factors on costs and shirts etc for members. We already have enough issues with retention adding more costs in simply do not help.
-
But these "pretty" shirts will help with recruiting and retention because everyone refs so they can look "nice" right? hEaDbAnG
-
Guys, the letters (whatever you want to call them) are here to stay regardless of what TASO does with the shirt design. I would, however, like to remove all flags and patches.
I'm lukewarm on the actual design presented, but am much in favor of a change. From a practical standpoint, we have too many guys who are not upgrading their equipment as needed. This will be a big step (at least for now).
As far as wear, 3-4 years should be a minimum. But you need to take care when you wash. Don't wash shirts on hot. Also, one of the problems with some washers is they don't get all the soap out of the fabric and it wears faster. Most washers have a double rinse feature. Use that and your clothes will come out much cleaner and I think help the life of shirt.
-
The placards are the most retarded uniform change yet. Absolutely retarded and useless.
-
The baseball division could hardly imagine people switching from navy blue shirts to black shirts. Its now 5 years later and there are no navy blue shirts on the field. UIL Basketball shirts are now grey. People like to look like the pros...credibility I suppose. So if the pros have 2 inch stripes, it will happen here too.
-
I dont care all that much, but i will say I think the proposed design does look better.
-

They fatten up the wallets of the manufacturers and distributors. ;)
-
Welpe: are you putting your shirts in the dryer? If so, STOP. They will hang dry in less than half an hour (pants too).
DO NOT put any performance clothing item in the dryer unless you have an air dry (no heat) feature. Heat is what breaks that stuff down, not constant washing. Since I have hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars invested in performance clothing, some over a decade old and still going strong, I will hold myself out as some sort of an authority on this stuff.
On the other hand, some things just deteriorate with WEAR over time. Socks are a good example of something that is a 3-4 year item at most, no matter how well you care for them. The friction with the shoe wears them out.
PM me if you want to know my favorite brands and what wears/washes up well.
-
Don't care to buy one more set of shirts, but American flag should be on FRONT
-
Guys,
The placards are just an OPTION. TASO has no mandatory requirement that they be worn. They are to only be worn if the WHOLE crew wants to wear them. You are making a big deal over nothing. It is simple: If you and the rest of your crew like them, wear them and if none of you do, then don't.
