Title: Shirts
Post by: copedaddy on February 11, 2014, 10:21:27 AM
Any work if the good UIL will go with the new shirt design?

It is not a UIL choice.  This is a TASO  football choice.

Any word on what TASO Football decided?

I would think this is an agenda item for the Feb 21 TASO football board meeting.

Now do you really think they won't make a change?  Too many dollars out there not to.

Too much money for us to spend!!!!  Leave it alone.

If they do pass it I hope they allow it as an optional item for a year before it becomes a standard. It would gives guys that need to plan the expense some time and save a game fee for it.

I do not care either way if we go to it or not. I am in a situation where I need to replace shirts but can get a years more use out of them. Some guys are not so lucky in that they may have just purchased new shirts. If so it would be nice that they can get another years use.

Believe me if they okay the new shirts, everyone will be wearing them for varsity games next year!

Did anyone else see the survey results?  63% want the new shirts.  I guess it is hard to argue with that much of a majority.  Expect new shirts next season.  I've lost 75 lbs since football season started last season so I'm need of a couple of much smaller shirts anyway.  And, no longer looking like you work at footlocker can't be a bad thing.  Bring the new shirts on.

Awesome, more money to outlay...  Some of the comments are pretty true and some probably sting a little....

So if we're going to end up going with these new 2" Stripes, I'd say that we should go with the TASO Patch and the Texas Flag on the Sleeves. After all, we're really all about Texas High School Football.

And if they also want the American Flag, just place it over the Shirt Pocket! And I'm also assuming that plackets will be required for Varsity games.  z^

Well one positive is that this will require the guys that should have replaced their shirts 10 years ago to finally buy some new ones.

Same with the pants, no more yellow knickers to worry about.  :)

Edit: Some of these comments are a riot. I'm having a good laugh here.

I don't think requiring plackets would be a good idea.  Many of our members work a different position on any given week.

It isn't now, and it never should be unless, of course, that you're working a televised high school game. But a lot of our chapters that embrace the crew concept, where everyone works only one position, don't really seem to have a problem with it! Just saying!   z^

How does the placket/placard/freakin' letter do anything to assist you in officiating the game?    hEaDbAnG

Nothing, just like these new shirts, or the new shorts...  The shorts are a real sticking point for me, we have trouble just getting people to cover all the sub-varsity and now you'd better have your sanctioned shorts on or you might not be good enough to call the game.  Black shorts.

I can see both sides of this deal, but the idea that you are 'better' or perceived to be 'better' because you have a letter sewn on your back is laughable.  Just as laughable as if you aren't wearing sanctioned shorts the. You aren't good enough.

In essence, it doesn't contribute one cotton-picking thing to our officiating skills! No more than the NCAA, CCA, TASO, UIL patches that adorn those shirts. No more than the proposed 2 inch stripes or the black officiating slacks are going to help us to be better officials.

It's largely nothing more than an "every-so-often" fashion perception that comes about largely because of a societal sense of change, fueled greatly by their notion that if an idea for some form of change is inevitably signed on to and successfully implemented, that they can use it as some form of a revenue generator.

It's strictly fashion and has absolutely no bearing on what kind of an official that we truly are. In reality, that is solely judged by our internal combination of cognitive skills of knowing how and when to apply the rules; as well as learning how to work with our peers, as well as knowing how to handle and deal with people!

That is what truly makes an official! What we wear out there between the white lines is only a fashion statement!  z^

If TASO goes with new shirts so be it.
I'm not out on Friday nights looking for a paycheck. If I have to invest $150 to $200 in new shirts then it is what it is.
I just purchased a new long sleeve shirt last year, new shorts, etc....
Not concerned over the financial ramifications over a new shirt.

No! No! Since we'll be using 7-Man Mechanics in the very near future, let's not forget the "F" and the "S" :

They'll both be sponsored by No-Doze!  z^

No doze for the F, but for that S, I would think personal lubricant, KY Jelly maybe.
