Has anybody heard or read of FED adoptions for shortening games at the sub-varsity levels? Have had a couple of inquiries about this....

Round these parts, JV plays 10min quarters cause "that's what they always have done"

We have a state rule about it:
All JV games will be played with 10-minute quarters. If there is an 8th grade student(s) on the JV team, then 8-minute quarters must be played.

There are no Fed adoptions that I am aware of. As stated earlier 10 min. quarters are the norm. In the old-old days, when the current NFHS timing rules came into effect, we continued to use the "old" clock rules on change of possession without a kick in the area I worked for JV's.
MS plays 8 min quarters.

Ohio says we can use 10 or 12 minute quarters for JV games. I do not know of anyone playing 12.

Don't know about Ohio, but 12 minute quarters is the standard for JV Football in Upstate NY

Most conferences in our area (south central NC) use 10 minute quarters, and "old" timing rules (wind clock on RFP after COP unless fair catch, touchback, runner OB, ball OB, etc.) for JV's. Same for MS, except they use 8 minute quarters + old timing rules.

Rule 3-1 sets max 12 minutes per period unless the teams are made up of kids from the 8th grade and lower where the max would be 8 minutes. . If the game consists of kids from the 9th grade & lower ,via state adoption, you can have 10 minute periods. In Maine : Varsity = 12 minutes, freshman = 10 minutes, J.V. = teams can choose between 10 & 12 minutes. Usually the choice depends on how large the JV squads are as they often vary from 15 to 50. The sub-varsity coaches can also decide if to play overtime in event of a tie.
