Still no mercy rule.
I think there is supposed to be some discussion of IR today or tomorrow so that will be interesting to see what they decide.

It's shame they rejected the mercy rule.

I know others will disagree, but I think Cowboys Stadium is the most logical place for the state finals. I can't stand Jerry and hate the idea of people paying the parking and food prices, but Reliant isn't feasible for several reasons and frankly, the Alamodome is a HUGE step down from either Cowboys or Reliant. Houston is too much of a burden for West Texas, they would have to change their turf out, and honestly, no one wants to go to Houston who doesn't absolutely have to. Cowboys will never have an issue holding whatever crowds show up, is fairly easy to get to from most of the state, is a much better venue than the Alamodome (and probably better than Reliant), and uses the same turf for the Cowboys themselves as they do for the HS games, so conflicts aren't an issue now that the NFL doesn't play on December Saturdays like they used to.
Use the heck out of Reliant and the Alamodome for earlier rounds. They're good venues and I strongly support basketball going to SA. But Cowboys is the place for the finals until something better comes along.

Yeah, getting the six-man schools to Houston, where there are reportedly none south of I-10 would be fun.
Ok, Follett, you will be going to Houston for the state championship game... it's only 1250 miles round trip...

this is the interesting part..
Hector said two other proposals will go to a vote today, when the UIL’s Legislative Council meeting concludes. The first proposal includes creating a committee to oversee the governance of sports officials and amending Section 1204 of the UIL’s Constitution and Contest Rules “to account for changes in the law related to the registration of sports officials, particularly in regard to oversight and criminal background checks.”

Alamodome certainly isn't a Jerry World, but in all fairness, the state championship venue should move every few years. Also, I would imagine Alamodome would rent their facility for far less. Alamodome is now the home to all UTSA home games and is a great place for football games. The turf is great, it's in a climate controlled setting, what else could you ask for? Maybe a video screen the size of a few houses?

Why move every few years? They don't in other sports. Honestly, while the Alamodome is a great HS playoff venue, if Cowboys is available its a no-brainer. I hate the idea of giving Jerry any money and I would never venture out there except to work a game. However, for all factors -- location, quality of the venue, where the kids would want to play, fan experience, etc. it just leaves the Alamodome in the dust.
But as I said earlier, if it is available for hoops and wants to host those state tournaments, that's where hoops needs to be.
