Title: 3 Sideline Officials = NFL
Post by: Paumpire on August 18, 2014, 09:59:15 PM
Hey Guys,

Im watching this MNF game it looks liek they are placing a Official 10 yards down from the H/L.  So that there 3 guys on each sideline.  ANyone else seen this?  I know they were gonna experiment with more officials in the preseason, but that seems like a weird place for them to be.

They are putting 3 on the L side for some preseason testing. If I remember right, the L will stay with his tackle and the 8th guy will take the receiver that used to be the L's key. If it works, I would expect them to go to 9 so that both wings will take a tackle and all 5 eligible receivers are being watched by a down field official.

This is a position we call the "middle judge". I didn't know that the NFL was going to trial it.
