Title: Sign in the coach's office
Post by: FLAHL on September 03, 2014, 10:54:26 AM
Our dressing room last Friday night was the head coach's office.  He had a sign on his wall that said "If at first you don't succeed, try doing it the way your coach told you to do it."

If the coach can take a joke, you may wish to post a handwritten sign next to it reading :

" If a first you don't win an argument with the ref, try becoming one :) :)"

If the coach can't take a joke....just leave some half-eaten  sNiCkErS in his chair. :) :)

If you knew our U, you'd know there's no such thing as a half-eaten  sNiCkErS

In our dressing room there was a sign that read "Official Official's Eye Test" which had a eye test chart below it. I didn't think it was very funny.

I do. We need to stop taking ourselves so seriously. A little humor makes life bearable at times. Since I started having to wear glasses because I can't read without them, I often joke about it. Still 20/20 for far sight but can't read my game card.

Thirty years ago I was working a women's college basketball game which featured an appearance by the San Diego Chicken. I'm standing under the basket during a timeout and the Chicken comes out with the eye chart.

Me: "I guess I'm supposed to go along with this."
Chicken: "You will if you know what's good for you."

I still have the picture that appeared in the next morning's paper and it is one of my prized possessions. My only regret is I didn't get an autograph.

About 15 years ago, as a HL I had Bill Murray next to me during the 2nd half of a HS prep game.  It got to be a 5 possession game late in the 4th quarter and he began to clown around for the visiting (and victorious) team parents.  I was going to be his foil and really didn't have a say in the matter.  It was a hot day so he toweled me down like a fighter, made jokes about me going to Belmont to ride after the game (knickers era), etc.  Afterward he signed an autograph for my two girls.

Two years later I get the same game and am on the same sideline.  He is again there, but this time the game is closer.  He respected the athletes and remained a quiet spectator.
