Title: 6-man kickoff mechanics
Post by: fblrush on October 05, 2014, 07:44:01 PM
Had to work a man short yesterday, dropping from 7 to 6 officials.
Can somebody tell me under today's mechanics who is on A's free kick line and who is on B's free kick line using 6 man mechanics?

I don't know the answer, but I would probably shift the R over and move the H up.

"old school" 6-man (at least where I'm from) F was on A's line, S was on B's line and U was behind kicker.

If it happened today, we would keep F and S on B's line and have U officiate the entire A line from his position on sideline. Not hard.

PIAA uses the "old" mechanics.  The U is wasted behind the kicker.  S and F on the R line, U on the K line and fold into the middle of the field on the kick.

R is at the goal line in center of the field.
H is at the goal line opposite the press box.
L is at the goal line on the press box side.
FJ is on R's restraining line on the press box side.
SJ is on R's restraining line opposite the press box.
U has K's restraining line.

Thanks, all for the response. You would actually be entertained by the first kickoff we did with 6. The BJ turned SJ gave the ball to the kicker, moved to the sideline, then moved down to R's restraining line. We got to the right places, but not in simple fashion.

I thought you were talking about 6-man football with 6-7 officials.  :!# ;D
