Title: Live Ball/Dead Ball???
Post by: SD_Casey on October 16, 2014, 11:35:30 PM
At the end of the Jets @ Patriot TNF game tonight the final play was 50someting yard Field Goal blocked at the LOS.

Ball landed beyond LOS but did not go OOB and did not cross GL.

Time Expired during the play.

Game Over, nobody says a word.

Shouldn't that be a live ball?  Scrimmage Kick, not a try.  Am I missing something?

7-2-1-i says ball is dead if ball is at rest and nobody tries to recover.
9-2-2-2-1 says Touching ignored @ LOS (not that it really affects anything)

Ball appeared to be rolling around with players in the vicinity of the ball when whistled dead.

I'm assuming it was because R has no reason to touch it and K can't advance but shouldn't you wait until the ball stops rolling at least?

I thought the same when I saw it, although it didn't touch a B player (other than the block which wouldn't count) so as no B player made an attempt to recover, it would be blown dead.

I didn't hear a whistle (as the crowd was making so much noise) to decide when it was blown dead but looked like nobody from NE was making any attempt so  I'd agree with the result.

Same play (but different reason) made it to the media video this week.
