Title: What are the keys for the wings on kickoffs?
Post by: LJ1977 on October 26, 2014, 09:48:45 AM
Not sure were the wings keys are on kickoffs. My crew seemed to have missed a BIB on a kickoff. It was there on film, but im afraid i am keying on the wrong thing.

The NFHS officials manual diagrams the field kickoff mechanic.  Essentially you have half the field from your side zone.  Whichever side the runner goes, that wing's primary is the runner and action around him.   You pick up the runner once he reaches you.

Are we talking 4, 5, 6, or 7 man mechanics? NFHS or NCAA

H/L  have 1st kicking player from sideline on their side
S/F have 2nd and 3rd kicking player from the sideline on their side
B/U have 4th and 5th kicking player from sideline on their side

All of these are for initial blocks.  After that it is zoned.
