Love Newhart but doubt he could have done as good a job as Burks

Maybe when it came to stuff not involving the microphone but can you image Newhart on the microphone as a Referee?!?!?!  Especially with IR ? 

I can picture it now...he puts the headset on and "accidentally " leaves his announcement microphone turned on so the massess can hear his side of the conversation with the booth..."Hello Jim...Are you there???...What's that clinking noise?  Oh the sound of  the ice cubes rattling in your empty glass....No , no problem, go ahead and get a refill, we can wait......You're back?  Great!  So what do you see in the video?   Video, you know, the pictures on that TV monitor in front of you....It's completly dark on the screen?  ...Tell me Bob, is the power on?.....There should be a button someplace in the lower right corner of the monitor that you can  push to power it on......You found it? ...Great!!!  So what are you seeing Jim?......Uhhh Jim, I think you are on the wrong Channel, we ARE in Dallas but I do not know anyone named Debbie.....         

You get the point...some of you fellows write some more script and I will send it to Mr Newhart so he can consider doing a piece as a white hat with the IT headset on.

Why did you stop?  That was great!  You nailed it.  With a little more work you could have had a full skit and possibly a good royalty check.  You've seen too much Newhart in you time.

Newhart's shows were full of memorable characters, but, I think any referee skit would have to have Larry, his cousin Darryl, and his other cousin Darryl manning the replay booth.

You don't realize how much Newhart mike has in him. Other than appearance, they could be the same person
