Does anyone have a link to a decent video on overtime procedures please ?
-
Really not that difficult, coin toss, decide which end to play, and then team A gets 1&10 at the 25. They then play football. If Team B scores on defense, game over. If A turns ball over, and then B turns it over on the runback, then A has to score a touchdown, or else their possession will end.

How about penalty enforcement? :)
-
Not a video, but attached is a
PP presentation (nevermind, couldn't upload a PP, had to convert to pdf) I put together to cover overtime rules. Feel free to rip this apart.
FYI - this was created for HS football using NCAA rules.
Further FYI - I taught the rules to the chapter every week, so the beginning is following up on the previous week's presentation. I am too lazy to edit that out.
Maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't. Maybe its good, maybe its not. But it is something that I had that almost fit what you were asking for...

Declined by rule ;D

What is the enforcement for KCI in extra periods?
Suppose B99 decides to catch and run back a missed FG because there's (almost) no risk to this tactic in extra periods. As the kick is coming down at the B-2, A44 jostles B99 (no personal foul) who then muffs the kick. It rolls into the EZ and A44 falls on it.
On tries, there is a special rule 8-3-3-f explaining that KCI is declined by rule but A can't score, much like a foul committed after the turnover. Is there a corresponding rule for extra periods? If so, I didn't see it in 3-1-3.

Even though 3-1-3 does not have the same language as in 8-3-3-f, I think you have to treat KCI as a post-possession foul. Penalty declined by rule, any score by team A cancelled.
-
What about previous spot enforcement for that KCI? A's possession has not ended because B has not possessed the ball.

So team A gains a new down by fouling? I don't think that is the spirit of the rules.

Declined by rule.

Yes B hasn't technically possessed the ball, but when A kicks the ball they are forfeiting their possession. Hence PSK enforcement with a foul that happens by B during the Kick.
-
This is KCI so the foul is by A, not B. Since there is no special EP rule regarding KCI we are playing by normal football rules. KCI has a very specific enforcement spot and it is not the PS. Simply announce the foul and that the ball belongs to B, the series is over by rule, there is no score, and announce the ball status for the next play or that the game is over depending on the situation.

Interestingly PSK does not apply during extra periods (makes sense, as again team B might benefit by fouling).
Now did somebody say something about the extra periods being simple? :)

The penalty statement for KCI (6-4-1) says: For foul between the goal lines: Receiving team’s ball, first down, 15 yards beyond the spot of the foul for an interference foul
So, if we have receiving team's ball, then the possession is over, isn't it? After the flag for KCI the receiving team basically has a free play, or am I missing something somewhere else?

I don't think you are missing anything, but the problem I and Morningrise have is the extra language in 8-3-3-f for tries, which would indicate that the situation in tries is different than in extra periods. But this assumes that the rules are perfect, which we all know they aren't, so I'm going with the explanation that the 8-3-3-f is just to make it absolutely clear that team A will not get the ball back nor score, and the rules makers have just forgotten to add the same language to 3-1-3.

I understand and agree that PSK doesn't apply in extra periods. Every series starts on the 25 (3-1-3-d), given no UNR, UNS, dead ball personal & live ball-dead ball fouls (3-1-3-g-1). What I am simply saying is that when A kicks the ball, to think that A is giving up their possession and B is gaining it even though the kick has not been caught yet.
Also understand that 8-3-3-f pertains to try downs, not during Field Goal attempts which was the original play.

You can think A is giving up on their possession but they might get it back after B's muff
Only in the original case, the muff comes after a KCI
And then, regardless of FG or try, the statement of the penalty for KCI declares B's possession.

They "give up possession" if the ball crosses the LOS.

They "give up possession" if the ball crosses the LOS.
but they get the possession back if B muffs
AR 3-1-3-IX

Im sorry, something is not computing here...why would there be a kick in an extra period?
-
FG attempt

FG attempt
Ah, all this talk about muffing made me thing people were proposing punts.

nope
we're talking about Team B in a hurry to try and win the game before their drive starts
