Title: kick out of bounds
Post by: ML99 on May 01, 2015, 01:43:13 PM
Can you pls clarify: Freekick from the right hash. --> Kick out of bounds (right side)
Where do you spot the ball in case of a rekick (+5yrds)? Does the kicking team has a choice to relocate, do they have to kick from the right side again?

thx, ML99

The penalty statement seems pretty clear. Enforce from the previous spot, not merely the previous yard-line.

The kicking team may relocate. Free kicks may be made "on or between the hash marks" and there is no restriction as to when the ball may be moved (except before the play clock ends when the ball must have been kicked). The previous spot definition doesn't really apply to a free kick because of this, and Team A choosing to relocate the spot of the ball is not allowed on any scrimmage downs except a few (try, after safety and touchback, etc.). The rules cover that and what happens after both a Team A and Team B foul.

Suppose the free kick is punted or drop-kicked. Where is the previous spot and how will you remember it? Are you going to bean-bag the general vicinity of where the kicker kicked it? And when the kicker has to repeat the kick, how are you going to make him do it from the exact same place? What do you do if he fails?

Free kicks don't have lateral spots, just yard lines.
