Full disclosure, I am not an NCAA official.
Last nights CMU Toledo game had an interesting ending with the referee taking a time out and asking the band and cheerleaders to quit making noise.
How does the NCAA ruled differ from the Fed rules when handling bands, noisemakers, etc.? ^talk
Thanks,

The band is not permitted to play and interfere with the offense's signals. I saw that live and rewound it on my DVR and I could not hear the band at all...
-
Part of it was because the cheerleaders were about 5 feet from the end line. Cheerleaders are also included in those not allowed to interfere with the offense's signals.

I was watching when this happened, I backed up the game to see what in the heck he was talking about. Over the TV I could not hear any band. The cheerleaders did have some big megaphones that must of been pretty loud on the field but you couldn't tell any difference from regular crowd noise over the TV.

I agree - it didn't seem to me like enough to stop the game for...

It's worth remembering that you hear what the sound engineer wants you to hear when you're watching TV. The crowd noise mike might well be behind the other end line for all we know.

Reportedly, the cheerleaders with bullhorns were verbally trying to yell out offensive signals, and with 2000 people in attendance, those sounds could be heard easily.

...IMO this probably could have been settled by the nearest official without having to make an announcement.

Only incidence I could find of this ever occurring is here: https://youtube.com/watch?v=5XLQdUlK0_8

An infrequent poster on here, Blue, once had the band cleared from the endzone because of this.
