Beware if you are taking the TASO test on the TASO website. There are several questions that have the incorrect answers as well as incorrectly citing the rule reference.
-
Most questions have the incorrect answers.
-
I took it and there is one that can not be right, there were a couple of others that were questionable but I probably just read them too quickly. Still made a good score.
-
From talking to other people, it appears that it times out, or something similar and when you start back every answer to any question is then wrong. I don't know if I'm right but when re-taking the test faster all went well.
-
Anyone else have an issue with this question:
1st and 10 on the A-20. A88 is on the line, more than 5 yards to the right of the right tight end. As the play develops, he blocs the middle linebacker at the A-32. The contact is directly to the front (high noon), below the waist and toward the original position of the ball. Ruling: Foul-Blocking below the waist.
True
False
I answered True and the rule reference it gave me is 9-1-6-a-1&4.

How does one bock directly to the front "High Noon" AND be blocking toward the original position of the ball? With that said, the term, "as the play develops", is typically used when describing a play in which the ball has crossed the line of scrimmage. In that case he can block towards the original position of the ball as long as it's 10-2.

We heard at our District meeting that the test is not officially "available" yet. While it is up on TASO.org they are still working out kinks and hoping to have it out by end of week. We were advised to look for an email blast when the test is ready to be taken and to hold off until then.

That's pretty easy. The angle of the block in relation to the field has nothing to do with where he hits the opponent. He can block toward the original position of the ball (or even toward his own goal line) and still block high noon if the opponent is coming right at him.

Rule #1 for self. Don't post anything when one should be in bed asleep. :thumbup

Please disregard my last post. This is the one I want to refer to. Has anyone else heard this?
-
That would be a correct statement.
-
Is there an email confirmation that comes after test complete? I know some have had issues with this in the past.
-
I got an email from TASO saying the test was released, but when I go to the portal, there's no link to a test under the calendar. Just me, or still broken?

That's potentially pretty wrong.
-
Test now appears to be live.

I wasn't saying he could do it legally. Just pointing out in response to another post that a "high noon" block can occur at any angle on the field.
-
I like the immediate feedback on the wrong answers. Is that new this year?
-

I thought there were several cleverly worded questions on the test. Why can't it just say IN FRONT instead of high noon? I can very well understand that the word high in high noon could be misinterpreted.
The question about the field with no 25 second clock is a trick question...and no R in his right mind would ever shorten quarters in a varsity game without talking to both coaches! As always...there is the real world and the test world!
Good Luck Men!

Yeah, I was about to get indignant about this question being wrong until I looked at the rule again. R has sole discretion before the game starts, must consult with coaches afterward. I'm going to try to do a JV game this year and tell the teams that I've decided conditions warrant one minute quarters and they can't complain because it's my sole discretion.

I've got to say, I absolutely hate the new format for this test. Hopefully enough negative sentiment gets sent to TASO and they put it back on Arbiter. You cant go back and correct something you might want to double-check. Cant start a test and go back and finish. Must keep on the site every 5 mins or so or you time out and lose your progress. Bad bad bad setup this year.
-
They might need some tweaks but I kind of like the format. The immediate feedback about getting an answer wrong is helpful.

I agree with Doc. I thought the instant feedback if you missed a question was the best thing about it. I took it when it was posted unofficially a couple weeks ago and I was able to exit and come back and pick up where I left off. Didn't even have to "save".
-
I actually like the new format.
Also, it seems there a database error on question 39 for me. I thought I was going to have to take the entire thing over again. However, it did save, and I was able to pick up on question 39 without a problem.

This is by far the most poorly written test that I have ever taken. Whoever created this was definitely more concerned with trying to let everyone know how much smarter they were than the test taker. By the grace of God I passed that thing but, clearly a poor effort by the writer(s).
-
Thought it was the easiest test in years. There were some stupid questions (how should the ball be relayed between officials).

Never taken the TASO test before? About 8-10 years ago there were some real doozies.

hahahahahah The questions are the same questions that have been on the test for at least 5 years. They get tweaked each year if a rule change requires but the test bank is basically the same questions. (And there were several people writing questions over the years, not one)

I just don't like it when they change one word in the written rule to try and trick you instead of making is a learning experience. A good play situation that requires you to reference definitions, rules and possibly AR's are the ones that get you to open the book.
Some of the mechanics questions didn't say if a 5 or 7 man crew was being used, which would have changed the answer. I think that needs to be mentioned now that we are using 7 man in a lot of games.

You should have seen some of the questions Dotson Lewis came up with !!!!
