Title: Help in clarification on Free Kick..
Post by: juxone on September 08, 2016, 11:52:14 AM
can someone clear up a kick question please...

K’s free kick is from Ks 40 yard line bounces on the ground at Rs 25.  K runs downfield (no fouls). R is at least 10 yards from the ball rolling on the ground. K83 places foot on the ball to stop it's rolling removes foot all K players head to their side line.   Confusion -- since the ball touched the ground and no R player touched the ball is this a "first touching" and/or isn't the ball still a "live" ball? http://www.refstripes.com/forum/Smileys/classic/wow.gif

Once the ball has gone ten yards and touched the ground, there is no "first touching" of a free kick, as the ball belongs to anyone who possesses it.  But simply putting your foot on it is not possessing it (and it's damn poor coaching).  What you have is a live ball IF someone is attempting to recover it.  If both teams are walking away, you have a ball at rest with no one attempting to possess it.  Blow it dead, it belongs to R at that spot.

Correct.  +1

Thanks that was my call, but one of the coach's fussed about it, made me rethink -- just wanted confirmation.  I assume the same is true for scrimmage kick--except there can be first touching and (absent a muff or fumble) the ball belongs to R.

On a free kick, K must possess the ball legally at the end of the play to get the ball 1/10. Putting your foot on it ain't possession.

On a scrimmage kick - assuming where K puts his foot on the ball is beyond the LOS - unless R has touched the ball first, the K player has committed first touching. If that's where the ball is when the whistle is blown, R's ball 1/10 right there.

And yet again, I'll mention what a shame it is that AB is wasting his time on the dark side as a coach. He should really be wearing stripes.  ;D

Speaking of poor coaching, we had K free kicking to an empty spot on the R25 this past Friday. K player ran down, stopped, looked at the ball, and waited for R to pick it up, then tackled him. Coach told my L, "We thought R had to touch it before we could pick it up."  LOL LOL pi1eOn cRaZy

I'll say it again, "You can't fix stupid".  They got exactly what they deserved.

IGNORANCE can be corrected by simply providing additional relevant details, or information. STUPID, on the other hand, is a far different matter and can often prove to be uncorrectable.
