The first penalty flags were used 76 years ago today - https://www.nfhs.org/articles/75-years-later-the-inspiration-behind-the-penalty-flag/

Cool story. Still have a red/white "foul marker" I used in the mid 70's (in my 'museum' :)).

I started back in 1969 in Connecticut, back then a NCAA state, and we used red & white flags. When I moved to Maine in 1971, all were using red flags, so I later bought a red one and "retired" my R & W to be wrapped around my clip for the chains. The frozen tundra of Maine took it's toll and after a few years I tossed it away.
Good job ,Robert, on holding on to yours -I wish I had. I made even a worse decision back in the '50s when I traded my Mickey Mantle card for one of Ted Lepcio (a reserve infielder of the Red Sox) - why ? Because I didn't like the Yankees :( .

Glad to see I'm not the only old timer still hanging around. Started in '72. Went 41 years, retired 4 years, back this year. Happy to be here. Happy to be anywhere!
