Foul: UNS

Thrown by: F, B, U

Grade: CC, 7

Although I have to admit, that's gonna be tough to beat when swapping season stories in the offseason.

Not that it makes any difference to us, but I wonder where the ball went?  North Texas might want their ball back!  Hopefully, it didn’t get into the stands, and the ball persons had no issue retrieving the ball.
I can hear some assistant wanting the game officials to get their ball back.  Wah, wah, wah.

Let me try :)

WR A88 and CB B99 have been going at each other all game long. Several talk-tos for both, but no flags thrown so far.

1/10 from B-45. A the snap B99 grabs the A88 by the facemask and pulls him down hard with the helmet coming off and staying in B99's hands. A88 continues to run his route and the pass is (overthrown) to him at about B-20. While A88 is running his route B99 throws the A88's helmet at his back (fortunately missing). Multiple flags by SJ, HL and BJ (maybe even U and FJ, I forget).

We did slightly screw up the enforcement, we enforced a UNS on A88 instead of the simple PF. Surprisingly there was zero fighting by other team members, both teams concentrated on keeping A88 and B99 separated after the play.

If you're on Facebook you may even have seen the video late last summer...

Mike, if you have the whole game available, check out a TD by Utah State about half way through the 4th quarter.  There was some more "Youthful Exuberance."   ;D

So, if A88 makes the catch, are you going to flag the illegal participation and offset the penalties?

Why is this illegal participation?

Sad to see it, but "youthful exuberance" usually relates to children, doing things really silly to call attention to themselves, and when those "children" are older than their teens, becomes pathetic.

Even sadder, when such nonsense is allowed to dominate adult behavior, under some guise of
'Entertainment" at professional levels to lower standards or respect for both the competition, as well as the opponent.

Somehow, when such behavior is frowned on, and/or immediately subject to consequences and penalty those (actual children), at the NFHS level, are usually able to successfully cope with their personal disappointment and control their individual emotional reactions and need for gratification.

In assuming they were offset anyway, with A88 continuing to participate once his helmet came off, and the FMM and UNS on B99.

Poor coaching. The player should know that return kicks are not allowed.

I don't think A88 becomes an ineligible receiver by rule even though he is no longer able to legally participate. I guess you could make that case, and may even be what the rules makers want. There may be a case where the helmet of the eligible receiver comes off (without a team B foul involved), he continues to participate and catches the ball, and team B would prefer a loss of down instead of 15 yards and repeat the down.

Maybe he is a senior and is putting together a highlight clip for getting drafted into the CFL?

He isn’t an ineligible receiver. But you may not continue to participate without a helmet.

I would have DQ for throwing the helmet at a player.
