Title: RTK with Team A in possession at the end of the down.
Post by: NVFOA_Ump on June 27, 2019, 04:53:50 AM
4th and 18 at the 50 yard line.  A29 punts and the kick is muffed by B81 at the B-25 yard line and A81 recovers the rolling loose ball on the B-35.  During the kick RTK is called on B72.  What are all of the options here?

I guess I'll bite.
     1. K can decline the penalty, and take the ball at the dead ball spot.

     2. K can accept the penalty. We go back to previous spot, mark off 15 and K gets an automatic first down.

In both cases, clock starts on the snap because we have a new series awarded after a legal kick.

I'm sure it's not that simple. What did I miss?
(Sorry for all the edits, but I'm getting A/B, K/R mixed up.

I think you got it, unless I am missing something.

Two things to remember : (1) R fouls behind the LOS don't qualify for PSK; (2) "tack-on" fouls apply to fouls on K. Accepting or declining the foul has the same results = K/ now A's ball at R/now B's 35 WITH ONE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION......

MONDAY MORNING TRIVIA : WHAT IS THAT POSSIBLE EXCEPTION ?????

Taking the RTK if it was during the last time down of the quarter will get an untimed down.

Congrats.... aWaRd....good job, Between the Lines, If time had expired during the play accepting the penalty would allow an untimed down. Declining the penalty would add to K's kicking stats a 25 yard punt which could also be reason to accept.

GA- A kick OOB would be a "major clock stopper" either way, as a new series had been obtained by K. Thanks for trying.
