Title: Best Shoe
Post by: zebra41 on July 19, 2019, 03:28:45 PM
Looking for a new pair of turf shoes, what is the best pair out there?

Not being flippant, but the best shoe is the one that feels good on you! The best looking, most durable shoe may be the worst feeling shoe on you. Everyone is different!

My crew uses the UA turf trainer. Good looking shoe and very comfortable.

There is no best.  Its what works best for you.  We are still limited to predominantly black so the adidas Speed Trainer models have been the last few I've bought but they seem a little narrow in the heel.

ditto others. whatever shoe is best for you.
i.e. NewBalance makes a good shoe; however, my feet hate New Balance and are always sore after wearing them.

I use Spotbilt Grid for years, but finally had to replace my last pair last year and found these New Balance Men's MU950V2 Umpire Low Shoe. Best Shoes I have ever worn for football.

But as everyone has said, you need to find what feels good for you.

I use Spotbilt Grid for years,

I think anyone that started 20+ years ago had Spotbilt.  They were never much on cushion or inner-sole but they held up well.  Everything is "pleather" now or worse, mesh.  Might as well wear a sponge on your feet if its wet.

They were tough as a tank, but not very comfy!

My second pair of Under Armour Ultimate Turf Men's Training Shoes are on the UPS truck for delivery today ^good. My first pair have three or four seasons under their belt and still look and feel great. I also have a pair of high/mid top Nike turf shoes that I like a lot sNiCkErS. Had them for six or seven seasons, now relegated to Jr High nights on field turf and foul charting on Saturdays when the weather gets colder. Lastly, a pair of Reebok Zig turf shoes. My crew got them several years back and I pretty much stuck with the Nike's mentioned already. Some guys in our area really like them, I was kinda, meh  ^no.

This thread is why I've always gotten irritated with "crew shoes" or CC forcing officials to wear the same kind of shoe. Shirts, pants, hats...nothing affects your comfort quite like a shoe. Crews should always have an open policy for footwear because it eliminates the problem of officials in pain or uncomfortable and missing a call on the field.

That being said, last year, I wore nike zoom turf trainers. Most comfy shoe I've worn in my life. It was like running on pillows

Spotbilt were the en-vogue shoe when I started in 1991 and everyone wore them. They were actually the only game in town with regards to having cleats and, per TASO requirements - all black. Nowadays, there are so many options. I still have the Rebok NFL Referee, Zig Magistrate and UA Ultimate Turf Trainer shoes. We currently sport the latter as a crew.

We recently went to crew shoes a few years ago because I like the cohesive look. However, we all had to agree on the shoe. We don't, however, wear the same manufacturer's hat, pants and shirt.

BTW, regarding missing that call... explaining to a Coach you missed a call because your feet hurt may not go over so well.  ^flag

I have worn New Balance the last two season and i really enjoyed them. But the UA are on sale at amazon so I ordered a pair. Wore them around the house a bit the other day and they seem nice. Was not a fan of Reebok.
