I am in a hotel room about 200 miles from my officials manual. I cannot find a casebook play nor my answer in a rulebook. My question is a free kick that is kicked out of bounds on the right side line. Where is the ball placed if they acceptt the ball at the 35 yard line? Is it placed on the right hash or can it be placed anywhere between the inbounds marks like a kick that was a fair catch?

For NCAA, 5-2-1 Penalty tells us, if Team B elects to take the ball 30 yards from Team A's restraining line, it shall be placed at the hash mark (to the side where the ball went OB). There is no option to locate the ball anywhere else.

In fed rules it’s the nearest hash. I have posted the only times A can designate the spot:
ART. 6 ... Before the ready-for-play, A may designate the spot from which the ball is put in play anywhere between the hash marks:
a. For a try.
b. For a kickoff.
c. Following a safety.
d. Following a fair catch.
e. Following an awarded fair catch.
f. Following a touchback.
g. For the start of each series using an overtime procedure.

I still get requests from coaches for alternate hashes and have to remind fellow officials they don't get the choice in this case.
