And don't get confused, a tee is not required.

Does that differ from the NCAA rule?

NCAA is 1”, but TX HS is 2”.

Does that differ from the NCAA rule?

In NCAA, the tee for a free kick place kick may elevate the ball no more than 1” above the ground. A tee is not allowed for scrimmage kick place kicks.
For Texas UIL high school football, a tee for a free kick place kick may elevate the ball no more than 1” above the ground (same as NCAA).  For a scrimmage kick place kick, a tee may be used and it may elevate the ball no more than 2” above the ground.

I asked the question, because I know that 2” high ‘kickoff’ tees (usually orange, with the post feet, ‘pronged’  back supports, and scalloped base support for the nose of the ball) are available for purchase and I was wondering why. Now I know why.
We don’t go looking for this on kickoffs, and I would venture to say that the majority of Texas UIL teams are probably using 2” high tees on kickoffs - because they are available. Even if the coaches know the rule, I’d bet they would get the 2” tees, so their kicker is not put at a disadvantage.
If they weren’t available, this would not be a ‘thing,’ even on paper.

The tee for a scrimmage kick place kick is that big, black ‘slab’ type, so it is quite distinct from the kickoff tee. Since both UIL and Federation allow a 2” tee, this is not a ‘thing,’ as I’m sure these are the only types of flat type tees available (other than something home made).

Like I said, we don’t - and won’t - look for this. I was just wondering why 2” kickoff tees were still being manufactured, and I have the answer.
