As we slowly creep out from under the pandemic cloud (in Maine we can remove our masks and hug those in the room IF we all have had the shots), we can celebrate Easter in a near-normal way :). We all know what Easter is celebrating, but how many know how the date is calculated and who decided to calculate it this way ??? ??? ???...
HAPPY EASTER, ALL.... ^good

Just a guess based on distant memories of Nuns trying to carve memories into dense stone. Based on Biblical prophesy, " creation of a new direction, 3 days after the Jewish days after the Jewish remembrance/celebration of Passover (from Egypt).

Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox.

Surely the date has to have something to do with chickens.

It is said that Emperor Constitene devised this calculation. He was the first Roman big-shot to support the Christians, but was bothered by each Christian group celebrating Easter on different dates as would take different days off for their Pilgrimage to Calviery . He asked their leaders to meet and come up with a same day. The leaders did but couldn't agree on a date for Easter. The emperor then decided for them....
(1) It should be on Sunday as that is your Holy Day;
(2) It should be in Spring,as that is when flowers bloom and life comes back to many plants;
(3) As most had their pilgrimage w/o donkey and Roman streetlights were rare, their walk should be under a full moon.

Same here for Orthodox Christians, except our Easter is calculated using a slightly different calendar. Because the equinox is April 3rd (March 21 + 13 days), April 4th is the earliest possible day for Orthodox Easter. This year, Orthodox Easter is May 2nd, almost a month later.
Anyhow, congratulations to all on Easter!

Sounds like Constantine might have worn more than 1 "white hat". A collaborative, participatory "pre-game" discussion is always a good idea, but apparently even the Romans recognized there has to be a "final" say.

I dunno but this is the first Good Friday in my life that I've officiated a football game.
I hope it is the last.
