State playoff formats ended Thanksgiving Day games in the late 50's here in North Carolina. I know they are still popular in the northeast/New England areas.
I'd love to experience one just once but alas it will not be I imagine.

Most high schools are playing Thanksgiving day games here in Massachusetts even though the state championship games are not until next week at Gillette Stadium. Should be great weather and lots of big attendance games.

In Maine, there are a couple of "local" games where two schools from the same or nearby city play. They are in the civilized part of Maine but neither in my area, so my football will be on the tube.

No Turkey Day games in Michigan with the exceptions of the Lions. Championships games on Friday and Saturday at Ford Field for all 8 divisions of 11 man football.

DC conducts their public school championship for the Stars division on Thanksgiving Day and calls it the Turkey Bowl.

Our local Turkey Bowl is a flag football game between two elementary schools, played in the high stadium under the lights on the Thursday before Thanksgiving. I’ve “worked” this game several times, and it’s a blast. Nobody fusses and everybody has fun, including us.
Kinda like what Friday Night Lights should be.

Turkey Tournament. Six Youth teams, three from Tampa and three from Clearwater/St Pete, Occasionally, teams from out of state.
My favorite of all time was the last Championship game on a Sunday. 14-16 year olds. We saw an expensive tour bus roll into the parking lot, followed by a group of cars. Team unloaded ..... couldn't help but think ...those rich kids are about to get their hats handed to them by a group of gang members from St Pete. Then the announcer made the tour bus use understandable.
"Entering the stadium from the north endzone, is the Panama Sharks. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is not Panama City, Panama the country."
The most well disciplined, most coached youth team we ever saw. I worked Umpire for that game ...Cadence in Spanish. The linemen would open massive holes ....running back tackled ....the running back and linemen would jump to their feet and help the St Pete kids to their feet and say "Great tackle" "Great block" Late in the third quarter when the second leg was broken and trailing 56-0, the St Pete Coach packed it in.
The Panama Coach ad I talked for a while ....they had entered this tournament to get some practice time under their belt before joining teams from the northern and southern hemisphere to play a tournament at Disney World.
